June, 21 2011 | Ioannes Stobaeus

The workshops for pottery and fresco conservation and documentation began on 12th of June with 8 participants from USA and United Kingdom. During the first week the participants in the pottery conservation workshop were introduced to the basic methods through conservation and restoration of modern ceramic vessels. In the following week they will have the opportunity to conserve original vessels from the Roman period.

Documentation of wall paintings before conservation and introduction to basic methods, tools and materials were the focus of the fresco conservation workshop during the past week. Smaller fresco fragments from different buildings at Stobi will be conserved this week.

This weekend the participants visited an authentic pottery workshop in Veles and some of the most interesting monuments of the Macedonian cultural heritage in Prilep, Bitola and Ohrid. In Ohrid they visited the church Bogorodica Perivlepta and had the opportunity to follow the process of conservation of the medieval frescoes.

The workshops finish at the 25th of June and they are part of the collaboration between NI Stobi, Balkan Heritage Foundation and New Bulgarian University.
