Relaxing pose of the nude young man reclining on the lion back and holding a kantharos in the hand, connects this unusual terracotta figurine with Dionysus, the god of wine, wine tree, theater and fertility. In the Late Hellenistic period, Dionysus is frequently depicted as a nude and indolent young man at the banquet, drinking a good wine. Although panther is his common companion, rather comic presentation of the lion on which he is reclining, is most presumably result of the imagination of the manufacturer.
